Acrylic rods are made of high-quality acrylic plastic through the extrusion or casting molding processes. They offer different performances and are used for different applications, but both rods offer excellent optical transparency, good chemical resistance, and outstanding machinability.

Extruded acrylic rods are made of quality acrylic plastic particles. They offer flexible lengths, a wide range in diameter, and a variety of colors. Usually, it is used for POP displays, DIY items, light guide columns, etc.

Cast acrylic rods are made from liquid polymethyl methacrylate. Some suppliers get cast acrylic rods from cast acrylic sheets by turning processing. Therefore, they offer excellent optical transparency and tight tolerance in diameter, but the color is limited. Normally, it is used for medical equipment, furniture, some components by CNC machining, etc. It is obvious that cast acrylic rod is more expensive than extruded acrylic rod.

Properties of Acrylic Rod

Compared with polycarbonate rod, acrylic rod offers higher optical clarity, better machinability, excellent chemical resistance, more colors, similar density, and lower impact resistance. It is easier to be polished for crystal surfaces. Therefore, the acrylic rod is used widely for POP displays, light guide rods, furniture, industrial parts, etc.

When you heat it more than 80 ℃, the acrylic rods will soften, and you can bend it easily.

If you bend it for a DIY project with a small quantity, you can use a heat gun to heat it and bend it by hand. If you need to bend acrylic rods in large quantities, you need to heat them in an oven and put the heated acrylic rods on a special jig.
